The Botanical Gardens and Natural History Museum of Gothenburg partnered to celebrate the Taxonomy Recognition Day. Politicians and educators were invited to a breakfast discussion to explore the current state of taxonomic education and consider potential actions for its improvement.
They also organized a bioblitz in the gardens, open to public participation. A bioblitz is an event where participants attempt to identify as many species as possible within a designated area and time frame.
Taxonomy Recognition Day, celebrated on May 23rd to coincide with Carl Linnaeus’ birthday, is particularly significant for our Swedish partners, as Linnaeus was from Sweden.
