TETTRIs Final Event to showcase the future of European taxonomy

The final event of TETTRIs (Transforming European Taxonomy through Training, Research, and Innovation) will be held in Brussels on 27, 28 and 29 April 2026, marking the conclusion of this EU-funded innovation action under the Horizon Europe programme.

The three-day event will bring together researchers, policymakers, and key stakeholders from across Europe to reflect on the project’s achievements and to discuss the future role of taxonomy in biodiversity science and policy.

A two-part programme

The final event will be structured around two main components.

  • Scientific Achievements of TETTRIs
The first part of the programme will showcase the project’s main scientific results and innovations. Sessions will feature presentations from consortium members, highlight collaborative initiatives developed throughout the project, and explore synergies with satellite projects. Together, these contributions will illustrate how TETTRIs has worked to modernise taxonomic practices, strengthen infrastructures, and improve biodiversity data integration across Europe.
  • Policy Dialogues on Biodiversity
The second part of the event will focus on policy engagement, with two high-level roundtables bringing together policymakers, scientists, and other stakeholders. These discussions will examine how taxonomy can better support biodiversity-related policies and broader political agendas, including areas such as Finance and One Health, at a time of accelerating biodiversity loss and environmental change.

Why this event matters

Taxonomy is a cornerstone of biodiversity science and evidence-based policymaking. Robust taxonomic systems are essential for conservation strategies, environmental monitoring, and sustainable development. Since its launch, TETTRIs has addressed these challenges through capacity building, research and innovation, technical development, citizen engagement, and closer interaction with policy processes.

As the project reaches its conclusion, the final event will provide a platform to:

  • Reflect on the scientific and societal impact of TETTRIs
  • Assess its contributions to strengthening European taxonomy
  • Foster forward-looking dialogue between the taxonomic community and policy stakeholders

About the event

The event is organised by CETAF and RBINS, co-coordinators of the TETTRIs project, in collaboration with the full project consortium. Participation will also include representatives from satellite projects, European institutions, and other key actors in taxonomy, biodiversity research, and policy.

Further details on the programme and registration will be shared in due course.
