TETTRIs goes to Africa

Maarten Van Steenberge (Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences), Dr. Rodrigue Edéya Orobiyi Pélébé (University of Parakou and University of Cape Coast) and Prof. Maarten Vanhove (Hasselt University) delivered a four-day workshop at the University of Parakou.

The participants—Beninese fisheries managers, academics, and teachers—were trained in freshwater ecology and biodiversity using a course for policymakers developed for TETTRIs.

The training included:

  • Field trips to put theory into practice

  • Hands-on sessions on fish and parasite identification

  • Collection management, parasitology, and protection of threatened fish species from Benin

Two researchers from Togo and Côte d’Ivoire also participated.

This project was financed by the Global Taxonomy Initiative, managed by the CEBioS program, supported by the Belgian Directorate General for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid, with additional support from the TETTRIs project.
