TNLS achieves key milestone in data standardization

About TNLS project

On 1 May 2024, the Taxonomic Name Linking Services (TNLS) project officially launched as part of the TETTRIs cascade funding programme — one of 12 innovative initiatives designed to transform taxonomy through collaborative, data-driven solutions.

Supported by a €150,000 grant, TNLS addresses a fundamental challenge in modern taxonomy: matching organism names across diverse datasets. By developing permanent identifiers specific to individual species, the project is paving the way for a unified and reliable name-matching system that connects biodiversity data across disciplines and institutions.

Project highlights

“One of the main highlights was achieving standardization of input and output field names across different taxon match services at RGBE and VLIZ, making integration between these applications much more seamless. We’re particularly proud of how we managed this as a collaborative team effort, creating a clear and sustainable framework that will benefit future developments.”
